Copynotes: Library's Rare copy bound in 19th-century green morocco, with gold ornamentation and all edges gilt. Binder Francis Bedford (1799-1883). Housed in a clamshell case together with library's Rare copy of the 1590 edition of Books 1-3, cataloged separately. Local note: Dealer's description placed in the Rare Removal File, together with a photocopy of the entries from F.R. Johnson's bibliography pertaining to both volumes held by library.
Editionnotes: In verse. First edition of books 4-6. STC (2nd ed.) identifies the printer as Richard Field. Signatures: A-2I⁸ 2K⁴. Pagination is based on taking the title page as page 1; numerous errors in paging as described in Johnson, including 366-367 repeated. The caption at head of each canto in a compartment with borders of type ornaments. ESTC S117748 describes this edition together with the 1596 edition of Books 1-3; Johnson describes them separately, stating that more copies were probably printed of the second part than of the 1596 edition of the first part (originally published in 1590).
